Psychologist, Director


Dr. Wassom is a Licensed Psychologist and the Clinical Director of Katie’s Way. Dr. Wassom received his Ph.D. from The University of Kansas in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Health and Rehabilitation. Dr. Wassom completed a fellowship in child and pediatric psychology at Children’s Mercy-Kansas City and joined the medical staff at Children’s Mercy in 2009. During his time at Children’s Mercy he was involved in hospital/medical based consultation services and outpatient therapy in the areas of behavioral pediatrics and child/adolescent psychology. Dr. Wassom had specific expertise and clinical experience in working with Gastroenterology populations and worked with children and adolescents with chronic medical illness, chronic pain, stress related physical conditions, and elimination issues. He also provided psychological treatment and therapy for children with many other medical conditions. His interest in behavioral pediatrics emphasized work on normal challenges of child development such as management of tantrums, early emotion regulation issues, sleep issues, feeding issues and toilet training. In addition, clinical experience included treatment of clinical disorders in young children such as oppositional defiant disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, autism spectrum disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions, ADHD-predominately inattentive type and executive functioning weaknesses, ADHD-combined type, habit disorders, anxiety disorders, and childhood depression. Dr. Wassom also provided therapy to adolescents across a broad range of concerns such as stress management, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression/mood disorders and autism spectrum disorder. During his time at Children’s Mercy, he was also heavily involved in training and supervision for medical residents, developmental pediatrician fellows, and psychology fellows. He also served on the Institutional Review Board committee which helps regulate clinical research.

Since moving to Katie’s Way in February of 2015, Dr. Wassom had served as the Facility Director and focused on continuing to provide psychological treatment services across a broad range of areas. He also worked on developing clinical programs and the growth of Katie’s Way.  Dr. Wassom is now the Clinical Director of Katie’s Way and continues to devote most of his time to patient/clinical care. He also enjoys community outreach, community presentations and collaboration with schools.
