Psychologist


Dr. Katie Smith is a Licensed Psychologist and recent addition to the staff at Katie’s Way. She received her PsyD. from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychology. During her time in Chicago, Dr. Smith provided therapy services for children and adolescents with complex family dynamics living with high levels of community violence, conducted learning disability evaluations for students within the school systems, and worked in a pediatric clinic focused on providing therapy and diagnostic services for children with autism and developmental disabilities. Dr. Smith completed an APA-accredited internship at Family Service and Guidance Center in Topeka and stayed on as a post-doc and staff clinician in the outpatient department and as a clinician in the center’s anxiety treatment program. Dr. Smith has experience treating children and adolescents presenting with a range of concerns, such as mood or behavioral disorders, but specializes in treating autism and other neuro-developmental diagnoses, anxiety disorders and OCD, and stress and life transitions. Dr. Smith utilizes evidence based modalities, such as CBT, Exposures with Response Prevention (ERP), and social skills training as well as integrates techniques and strategies from family systems, narrative therapy, solution-focused, and play-based approaches. Dr. Smith uses a collaborative approach with families and feels it is a unique privilege to be part of a child or family’s path towards change and finding their definition of wellness.
